Today, I woke up at 4:30 AM to take a Southwest flight from SFO to Atlanta. We took a shuttle to the airport from our hotel. It was dark, cold, and rainy outside. At SFO we had to wait on the Tarmac for papers to be approved by the air traffic controllers. We took off late but managed to stay only a few minutes behind schedule.

At the Atlanta Airport, we rented a Ford Fusion and started to drive to Alabama. The drive took a long time so I slept and listened to music. In the car they have a feature called SYNC and it lets you listen to music and make phone calls through your phone.

After a quick break at our hotel, we went to see my father's college, University of Alabama, and where he stayed during his studies here. We walked around the campus and saw the bell tower and places for students to use like libraries and cafeterias. The campus was very clean, and looked very large.

An interesting sight in the city is the technology. Many streets have recently been paved and are equipped with LED lights. I think that with all of the money the university collects, it can afford to help the city with their technology. We also saw the Mercedes-Benz plant on the way to the University. All of Benz SUVs are made here. I thought Silicon Valley was supposed to have all of the technology?

For dinner we went to the Cypress Inn. http://cypressinnrestaurant.com It is a restaurant on the Black Warrior River. We ate fried chicken salad, fried green tomatoes and lots of other southern food varieties. (A lot of food here is fried). Other unique side dishes were mustard greens, Hopping John (black-eyed peas) and cheesy grits. Everything was yummy!
