We got up early and caught the 1.5 hour train ride to Grenoble, an ancient capital of the Dauphine region and host to the 1968 Winter Olympics. Grenoble is nestled near the start of the French Alps, so it is picturesque to say the least!
The first thing we did was take a gondola cable car to the 19th Century Fort de la Bastilla, which is an impressive military structure built in 1823. The Fort was designed to repel an attack over the mountains and contained ramparts, blockhouses, gunfire seats, and a sweet layout of caves.
In addition to the historic fort, we got to see some amazing views of the city and the surrounding mountainous area. See pics for more info.
After hiking around the mountain for a bit, we descended back to the City itself and checked out some more of the sites. Nothing noteworthy to report there.
