So we spent 2 days exploring Yellowstone. We saw lots of Bison... They always seem to be crossing the road and holding up the traffic - don t think that I would like to visit Yellowstone in the height of the tourist season! It would be one long traffic snarl-up ... Also saw mule deer and on our way out we saw 3 grizzly bears - quite far away but very pleased about that. Magnificent River, the Madison... Fast flowing over shallow pebbled beds... "Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam...."
We decided to leave Yellowstone through the North Entrance into Montana, and very pleased that we did. The vistas were fantastic through the Yellowstone Valley. And then into Montana. Montana is overwhelmingly beautiful - cattle and horse country. Now that the Indians have gone am not too sure why there are so many horses... Andy looked with longing at all the farms - lush with water everywhere. Cattle are mostly Black Angus type and they are calving and looking so healthy. The barns are what I always imagine as typically American - red with white trim. Went all along the Yellowstone River (the longest un-dammed river in the US).
Today we decided to take the back roads from Butte, heading for Lewistown in Idaho - searching for Wisdom! Can always use some of that! We did find it! It's a small town on the Wise River! Stopped at Big Hole on the way and saw the Big Hole Battlefield. The visitor's centre was very good - a wonderful video that really gave us an understanding of the Nez Perce Indian tribe from this area, and everything they went through. From there we were in the Bitterroot area - Mountain, Valley and River. This is the land of creeks and gulches e.g Tin Cup Creek....
We are now camped along yet another river, in the Lolo area, with a hot spring. This evening we will go to the local pub for a drink where we will get wifi and then swim in the hot water. We seem to be in the right spot because we are told that tomorrow night there will be a country and western live band with square dancing etc... Andy doesn't think he will make that party!

Dorothy, why did the marker on the map take you to Kansas?
Hope Andy made the live band and square dancing. That would have been a real treat for the locals.enjoy!

Bruce - to get my red shoes!
Hi Ann, thanks for the blog. It's great seeing pics of places we've been and lots we haven't seen. Lake Jenny sure gave you a lovely pic. I enjoyed the campsite on the river with all hoses and cables deployed on the camper. I presume everything's still working?
Keep the blog rolling - we'll be keen readers.
Mick
Yes, everything seems to be working well, but I think that we have run out of gas.. It's SO cold and rainy......
With all those bears around better get used to climbing trees higher than the bears can.Enjoy the journey.
Mick, We haven't run out of gas... I meant propane.... However I think there is something wrong with the heater! Still raining.....
