Where I stayed
National Elk Refuge
. We landed up at National Elk Refuge campsite in the Grand Tetons.. settled in and then realized that there were no showers - that is a big blow for me.. Can't go without a daily shower.... Realized that American style camping doesn't require shower facilities as they all come equipped in their huge RV's with everything there, including huge TVs, and usually their dogs!!!!
Lovely drive through Jackson to get to the Grand Tetons ...just magnificent. Really in cowboy country here, learned to say Howdy instead of Hi...one of the flashing road signs even flashed - "slow down cowboy" . Annie Oakley and Butch Cassidy also come from here I think.. Certainly the literature in the visitors centre all feature them, plus Alexandra Fuller's book about these parts.. Can't remember the name offhand... So she must live here about.
But no elks in the campsite! In fact the only elk kind of thing that we saw was a huge arch of elk horns across the road in one of the towns. They have lovely benches with little bears on each side!
Left Grand Tetons after visiting Lake Jenny. It is just so beautiful that in fact you just become a bit blasť about all the beauty around.
