Miriam's first day of school was a little nerve-wracking for both of us. I think neither of us was prepared for the sheer number of students in the classroom. Combined with all of the parents it was pretty overwhelming. Miriam sat down at a group of desks with Robin but she had this deer-in-the-headlights look that showed that she was really not feeling her usual confident self.

I felt so bad for her. But her teacher came over and introduced herself and then introduced two other girls at her table. I had asked the teacher if she knew where the day care room was and she asked the two girls to show us both. The two girls were very sweet and asked Miriam lots of questions about her school and by the time we got back to the classroom, I could tell that Miriam felt a lot more comfortable. Miriam told them that her whole school was the size of their classroom today and I thought that that just about summed it up!

She seemed to have a much better day yesterday so I am sure that by the end of next week she will be fine. I am dropping her off at Dalia's house in the morning and they are walking to school together which is very cute. They are not in the same class but have been having lunch together. Miriam's new friend, Mimi, is also in a different class, but I am sure they will see each other often. In fact, she is coming over for a sleep-over tonight.

I am keeping busy at work with the first week of classes, but on the whole it has been pretty smooth this year. No major crises for a change. We had our welcome back party last night and Miriam had a great time running around with all of the other kids. Next week we'll have our first Family Night at Hoch Shanahan. I sent out the invitation yesterday and have already gotten several positive responses. Everyone is happy to have a night with no cooking and no cleaning up!

Love,
