The time came for me to observe and partially teach a lesson at our school.  Josh, the American guy, gave me a run-down of the basics and helped me plan the second half of the lesson.  He would teach the first half while I watched and learned.  One by one the little 1st/2nd/3rd graders trickled in to the room:

"Hello Teachah Josh! :-D"
"Hello ___, how are you today?"
"I'mfinethankyouandyou?"  If asked how they were, all the kids and even some grown-ups would automatically respond like this without variation.

The lesson got started.  It seemed mostly in line with what I'd read about Taiwanese cram school classes on the interwebs. The kids were divided onto two teams with silly names and earned or lost points throughout the lesson depending on their performance.  The winning team at the end got to pick from a small prize box filled with Angry Bird stickers and these POG-shaped collectable metal disks I never learned the name of.  The first half was a rapid-fire series of language games like something out of Mario Party, the second half was usually quiet bookwork and reading.  English cram school is extra-curricular so the fun and games quotient tends to be high.  More draconian measures are reserved for "Chinese School" (regular public day school.)

My turn came up.  We did the reading and bookwork.  The lil ones were remarkably efficient.
-"Ok Teachah!"
-"Teachah, finished."
-"Teachah okay!"

No cusses?  No protests?  No one got into a fight?  Is going from "Mister!" to "Teachah!" a promotion?  I guess so.  It wouldn't stay this easy, but for a first day the career of Teachah Charlie was off to a non-shabby start.

Some popular team names the kids came up with:
Team Angry Birds
Team Super Junior (a K-Pop boy band)
Team Super Mario Galaxy
Team Super Mario Galaxy II
Team Super-Super Mario Galaxy
Team Lady Gaga
Team Justin Bieber
Team Baby
Team Baby Baby
Team Dinosaur
Team Jeremy Lin
Team Linsanity
Team Linpossible
etc.

I'm sure "Team Gangnam Style" has been added since.
