After a wakeful night listening to a drunken domestic dispute and staying up late to chat with some fiendly military guys who took it upon themselves to try and quiet the ruckus...needless to say I was a bit cranky this morning. My propane stove was too wet to function after the torrential downpour last night so I didnt get a coffee til sometime mid morning. Let's just say people were offering to roast and grind the beans themselves at that point.
When the brawling started up again around 6am I decided that we would head out as soon as possible to do something, anything, whatever was the earliest activity on the list of things to do in the park because although I do curse at times and if they didnt hear it from me they likely heard it from my mother, this was a whole new level of cursing that I thought was totally unnecessary for the kids to aquire into their vocabulary. The earliest activity was about 45 minutes away at the Discovery Centre and was an Art Workshop. It didnt give details and I didnt care.
It turned out to be Cyanotype (?) which is basically paper covered in photography solution and the kids gathered flowers and such to place on the light sensitive paper, set them out in the sun and then rinse them off. The end result was an image on the paper in white of whatever was blocking the sun and the rest blue. The kids had a great time and made some beautiful artwork that I plan to have framed when we get back.
Jeremy then, now a photographer, decided to take his apprentice with him on a 1km hike around the lake to look for possible photo opportunities. He actually did really well. He told me of his grand plan to be a freelance photographer and maybe journalist and wanted to go to a school for gifted children where the teachers work with the students learning style and not against it. I swear, his own words.
*sigh*
Another battle I will have to return to the fighting of when I get back.
But for now, we had an awesome day.
We spent the rest of the day at the beach. It was rough.
