We left Taos Saturday afternoon. Why does it always feel like we're rushing out accompanied by a lingering, nagging feeling that we’ve left something important behind?  I did a better job of getting my bag packed earlier in the week, but even so, I still felt rushed on Saturday morning.  We left early afternoon for Albuquerque and arrived just in time for dinner.  I’d forgotten about this place (Budhi) but it really is one of the best Chinese food places around.  We had the most delicious pork belly.  Followed that up with pork steamed buns and finished with some very delicious chicken dish with their summer vegetable.  Truly was finger-licking good.

We got to the hotel early evening and proceeded to ease into the evening and prepare for a long travel day on Sunday.

And now, here it is.  We’re up in the northeast—I can see Pittsburg in the distance.  It’s 7 in the evening and its still quite light out.  I know the further north we go the longer the light will stick around….and the sun should come up early as well.  I suspect we’ll have maybe 5 hrs of darkness tonight.  But I’m hoping that I won’t be awake for most of the flight to confirm that.

We arrived safely in Houston and averted a disaster when a big guy rushing to catch a plane missed Anne by mere inches as he barreled his way through the concourse.  It was a bit scary, especially the more we talked about it.  We made it to terminal E and had a very rushed light dinner (salad) at Pappadeaux as the airport in Houston and when we heard our names being called over the intercom we had just gotten our meals a few minutes prior.  The upside of that was that we didn’t wait on the plane too long before the door was closed and we were up in the air.

I decided to have the horrible airplane dinner—what else do you do when you’re on an 8.5 hr flight?!  I indulged in a glass of wine and I hope to sleep at least for 3 or 4 hrs.  As soon as I’m done with my first travel blog entry, I’m planning on calling it a night.  It’s unusual these days, but the plane is rather light with passengers.  Next stop, London.  We’ll have a 3 hr layover and then a short 1 hr flight to Edinburgh.

Next day:  I’m sitting up in bed at 10:30am and am ready for a nice, restful sleep. There's still light in the sky even at this late hour.  I didn’t get much shut-eye on the plane.  Slept maybe 2 or 3 hours but I feel really great.  I found these homeopathic jet-lag pills that seem to really help.  We arrived in Heathrow and had a couple of hour lay-over (and walked at least a mile to get to our next terminal).  We arrived at Edinburgh airport.  As we got the first three bags of luggage I mentioned out loud, "Yay, here they are.  I’m always amazed that our bags get here when we do!"  Just as I said that, I told the others, “oops I guess I shouldn’t have said that—I’ve probably jinxed it!”  And so it was.  Anne didn’t get her second bag and at 11pm we still don’t know where it is.

We’re at Dalhousie Castle Hotel and we leave for Inverness tomorrow afternoon.  When we arrived we had lunch at the restaurant.  The castle is about 30 minutes in the country from Edinburgh.  We took a car service from the airport and it is wonderfully quiet and beautiful here.  The rooms are both pretty fantastic with beautiful views.  After lunch Paul and I went to see the falcons and owls and had an archery lesson on the castle grounds.  I recalled my archery classes from college.  We had a blast.  Before dinner we had drinks in the library then we were escorted to dinner.  Leek soup, beef tenderloin with barley and cheeses & elderberry desert to finish it out.  Wonderful dinner in celebration of the eve of Paul’s birthday.  Dalhousie is a definite stop if you’re feeling like splurging.

Wow! Great photos and story. I am glad you all made it. What a wonderful atmosphere from the pics as a whole. Happy Birthday Paul (early?).
