What I did
The Great Smoky Mountains

Friday, July 26, 2013

I made plans to spend a few days in Gatlinburg, Tennessee I thought it would be interesting to see The Great Smoky Mountains. Early Friday morning I headed out on my adventure to Gatlinburg. I program my GPS to take the fastest route but somewhere along the way I must have lost my signal. Because halfway to Gathlinburg I found myself driving on secondary roads. It was pleasant and quiet not like driving on a highway or interstate.

This detour off the interstate landed me right in front of The Foothills Parkway entrance, not at all sure what the parkway was but, that was okay. I was out to discover new things I continue to drive through the parkway. I quickly realized that this was one of the better detours that I have taken. I had The Great Smoky Mountains surrounding me. With plenty of places to pull over and park my car. The view was something to behold, nature had provide a great photo opportunity

The Foothills Parkway is the oldest unfinished highway in Tennessee. There are four section to the parkway only three are completed presently. This project has been delayed since Congress authorized its construction in1944 due to funding. I took the east section of The Foothills Parkway which is about 5.5 miles long between Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Gatlinburg.

If you're planning a trip to Tennessee I recommend a visit to The National Park and travel along The Foothills Parkway.
