Flight, depart Bangkok 21:20 on QF8373, arrive Dubai 00:30

Dubai is one of 7 principalities in the United Arab Emirates and only 17% of the people here  are locals. Over 70% are from the Indian subcontinent and you rarely see Emiratis on the street - they go around in chauffeur driven limousines.

Here they used the Emirati Dirham or credit card.

Its like a posh version of Singapore.

Saturday 31st May, 5:45am, Room 104, Landmark Riqqa Hotel

We are ready to go!
This is it - end of a chapter. Eight months away from home and we still don't know when we will be back in Pendennis.

Dubai was worth the visit, but VERY hot in the street and not really our sort of place ( no pubs or bars!)

Yesterday we visited the Dubai Mall (as opposed to the dozens of other malls) with its 1,200 shops, ice rink, ski slope, aquarium, multiscreen cinema.....
I bought a pair of sandals from the Clark's shop, so it can't be all bad. There was BHS, Mothercare, Early Learning Center, Waitrose, Debenhams and 2  WH Smiths.

We also spent a very nice few hours on the beach, even if the sand was too hot to walk on. We had to run into the sea.

Wednesday afternoon we went for a drive in the desert, sluing up and down the dunes in a Toyota Land cruiser. Then we had a camel ride, saw some traditional dancing and ate a barbecued supper (with beer). It was OK. The belly dancer was good!
