Wednesday 25

We left Fishguard early and sailed on 2/3 of the (reefed) main for 8 hours. The kicker was eased and the boom well out to cope with winds that I measured at 28mph (average.) Add to that the 6 knots or so we were making and we were in a good force 7, but coping very well. Occasionally Kantara would slew up to windward and heel over. Ray would struggle to keep her on course, but all we had to do was hold on and DON'T PANIC.

Aberystwyth has a small harbour. Reeds almanac told us we could tie up to the Town Quay for 6.50, but that was wishful thinking. Instead we are in a 32 a night marina. It is probably a wise place to be with strong winds forecast overnight.

Thursday 26

Filthy weather today!

I was up the top of the mast in boson's chair this morning, dodging showers, fixing the foresail problem and looking at the anchor light, which appears not to appear. (Snaps to follow!!!) The existing anchor light is a 5cm hexagonal column, with each face containing 5 LEDs. Unfortunately it doesn't come on. I bought a little LED torch for 5 which we propose to hoist on a halyard. Should work OK!

For the rest of the day we 'did' Aberystwyth - well actually it only took half a day. The museum was OK. I didn't realise that the Romans got all this way, to Ceredigion. Also, there was major lead mining in this area. Bought a DVD from a charity shop, but it wasn't very good so I won't even tell you about it.

We hope to leave Friday afternoon on the high tide headed for Abersoch or Pwllheli.
