..............because I'm back on the road again!

My alarm went off about 5.45 ish and I was soon up and showered before loading the bike. I said my goodbyes to Brigyda and Binu - and the dogs - before pulling out onto the road just after 7.

I'm not really sure how to explain how I felt leaving because I didn't really want to.  The first 20kms or so really were a settling back in thing, bike kit back on and a loaded bike. Not as free a feeling as shorts and sandals but I still have a reasonable distance to go to make it back to Delhi.

Whilst on the subject of distances I think it worthy of note that my total mileage so far is greater than the distance I covered whilst riding from the UK to Delhi back in 2009. Hopefully that gives some perspective as to how big this country is and how hard my little 150 is working.

Anyway,I followed my nose for as long as possible and kept the Sea as close to my left as possible. As I rode the sun was rising to my right as the night time fishing boats came to rest on the sandy beaches. I sat and watched them unload their catch before they were loaded onto the waiting scooters and off to the local markets I guess?

After an hour of the coast I rejoined the major road in search of a roadside dhaba for tea and a dosa.  It was then a case of back riding and pushing on towards lovely Fort Cochin.
Unfortunately all the intake of liquid meant I needed a 'comfort' break and I kept an eye out for a suitable isolated location. In India people just stop and go but I prefer to be a little more discreet.  So, I was in severe discomfort by the time I'd found my chosen location and managed to get my old chap out in the fresh air and just as I was mid way through the long awaited aaaarrrgggghhhh out popped four nuns from an isolated track I hadn't seen. Oh how I laughed! Four nuns - I couldn't believe it. I didn't know where to put my face let alone my old chap!!!!!!!

Anyway, I once more headed off and arrived at Cochin about 12 ish and found a nice clean guest house. After check in and a shower I went for a wander and a walk along the coast and looked at the Chinese fishing nets that are on the shoreline.

During the late afternoon I was offered a beer from a roadside tout - which I gladly accepted - but then had a second. This then led me to a further establishment and just one more but it may have been two.

The problem with this is that I'd forgotten to write down the name of my hotel before leaving and in my refreshed state I'd also misplaced my sense of direction. Once I'd eventually worked out that I'd just walked 40 Mins in the wrong direction I got an auto back to the fishing nets - result!

In celebration of working out exactly where I was I went to a nearby restaurant and was greeted by an attractive looking girl who I smiled at and enquired about possibly securing a beer. She told me that they didn't have a licence but I flashed my blue eyes and said 'special tea' maybe? There was then a bit of giggling and maybe a bit of flirting before I glanced down and thought 'you've big feet for a girl' and also.....'big hands too'. In a state of shock I reverted to a fresh lime soda and asked for my mobile number back  ;-)

Seriously though -I was almost taken in completely!

I've not long made it back to the hotel having woken everyone I'm sure with my cat like skills in climbing the locked gate that prevented my easy access.

A funny old day in India that's for sure.

I'll try and upload a photo or two tomorrow.
