Later this month my long suffering friend - and frequent target of my humour - Richard " I used to be a financial advisor" Evans will be leaving his retirement home in the sunny southwest of the UK and heading on out to Delhi to join me on the start of my trip. I was going to head off before then but his long suffering wife (Hi Trish) says she needs a holiday - from him - and kindly paid for his flight.
I was under the impression we were going to head south and see the caves at Ajanta and Ellora but that particular 'plan' might now be subject to change
So..........my ever changing 'plan' is quite simply to ride the coastal route around India. I think it'll be about 6000 miles ish but guess the trip will be as long as it is. I am thinking that I'll ride down the eastern coastline to Kanyakumari at the bottom, have a photo taken and ride back up through Kerala Goa and back towards New Delhi. That way, I will have ridden top to bottom and most of the coastline. It sounds like it could be a fab trip and I'm a very lucky chap to be here and able to do it.
I've travelled many many miles here, over the years, but this will be my biggest Indian trip yet.
My choice of bike for this trip is a locally produced Hero 150cc Impulse which I have had - at my own expense - extensively modified - I fitted a top box!
Sorry Touratech but I'd rather spend my funds on travelling not shopping. To be fair though my luggage choice when attempting to cycle around an island in Southern Japan last year did let me down on day two. Boots carrier bags aren't nearly as good as they used to be.To defend the reputation of boots though, the island was being evacuated at the time as a hurricane was on it's way (I did think it strange at the time that I was the only person on the mid morning inbound ferry).
Maybe it's about time I changed, but one thing at a time - this blog thing first and maybe the rest will follow. Who knows, as/when/if I return to the UK I might even get myself a TV?Television that is, not the other type.
I will hopefully start to write an ongoing review of the bike in the next few days and having done almost 5.000 miles on it I already have a few thoughts on it and what's gone wrong etc. I am however convinced it'll make it all the way around; it has to - it's the only one I've got!
Actually, All the way Around - that's catchy - do you think Charlie and Ewan would mind?
