I woke up rather bleary eyed as I had had a strange creature in my room that night which had kept me awake - yep I had been babysitting.
Anyway today we set off on a short game drive; I was not expecting to see much on this drive. However, my breath was taken away time and time again. Amongst others we saw two black rhinos, a giraffe and elephants, all at close quarters. The latter was a herd which included a baby which was happily skipping about - so cute. They ended up crossing behind the vehicle, about 2 meters away! Even the guide looked nervous. These animals were amazing, we watched them as they ate and then walked past. They crossed ensuring that the young were furthest away from us. One elephant stopped across the road to allow the others to pass in safety - like a lollipop man! They were so close (and huge)it was an unforgettable experience. Apart from the trumpeting noise they make, they also communicate by stomach rumbling - a sound we heard several times on the Island.
At midday we were taking off in a helicopter and flew over Victoria Falls - it is an awesome sight. It is 1,688m wide and just over 100m high. Approximately 550 million litres cascades over it every minute! I thought I would be nervous but I loved it - the scenery was spectacular. The Zimbabwe side was deathly quiet rather than the tourist hub it used to be.
We then saw the Falls from ground level, it is quite intimidating and we were soaked within minutes. The Falls must be seen as they are spectacular.
After lunch and a wander around the craft stalls we headed home. After a big bang and a quick tyre change in the dark we made it to Lusaka. I have seen so many wondrous sights in such a short time I am still astonished as I type this. Sorry folks but there are lots of photos.
