Where I stayed

The yellow boat took us back to Nadi and a really nice hostel on the beach. This was the first day we had started to feel really well so we had a nice dinner and a cocktail and watched the sunset on the beach. I started to feel that this was what it should have been all about. To be fair they did do cocktails at the last two places but I could not face it.

After dinner I had my hair braided by two women. I had such a laugh they were so friendly and were great story tellers. It was quite late when I got to bed.

The next day we arrived at the airport and joined the very long queue. When we eventually got to the front of the queue the woman asked us for proof of our ongoing flight out of New Zealand. We explained we did not have our ticket, no we could not get it faxed, no we did not know our flight number off the top of our head and could she please offer some advice on, in her words, how we "should sort it". Our experience of Fijians have been that they are either really friendly and helpful or miserable and grumpy. There seems to be no in between.

Anyway, we did sort it by running around arrivals finding internet to print off our itinerary. The other annoying thing we have discovered is often people say yes when they have no idea what you are talking about or whether or not it is correct or not. Or you can just be totally ignored! Facial expressions are often completely omitted from conversations. Very strange.

Thank goodness the plane was delayed two hours of we would not have been able to leave..and I was ready to go by this stage. I won't go into the further annoyances at the airport but let us just say that catering and service from a store were questionable.
