Arriving in Punta del Este after the terribly upsetting experience of the bus journey it was great to arrive at a pretty place like this. With the sea crashing in on one side of the small town, the river on the other, and being able to see both from the middle makes it quite impressive. However, this place is a little pricey, the typical stores being Valentino, Ralph Lauren and such.

Nonetheless, Punta del Este is so pretty, everything is immaculate and landscaped. Nearby Madonaldo is a different world all together, looking very much like most of the other Latin America towns.

The views on route to here gave me the impression that Uruguay was very much like England in terms of the countryside en-route and the houses (including thatched cottages). However, away from the posh bits it clearly is very different with slums and tin shacks around.

We came here to test out the local beaches...however howling chilling winds have sort of put a stop to that. However, the singing hand-dryer kept me entertained for a while!

Quite funny, earlier as we were going around the town trying to find a supermarket we just could not find one. In the end we asked a man and he pointed it out to us. We could not see it and he looked a bit confused that we could not follow his instructions. In the end he pretty much walked us to the entrance. It was not obvious from the outside that it was a supermarket and it was called Disco...I thought it was a party place. Duh!

Uruguay makes it four countries in one week!
