Two day hike of the scenic Routeburn Track

Routeburn Track - The Routeburn Track is New Zealands most popular. At 33km it can be a 2 day or 3 day hike. We did it in 2 days. This track is very scenic, with lots of rivers, lakes, mountains and greenery.....really great!

We slept near the top of the mountain in one of the conveniently located huts with 40 or so other trampers (New Zealand speak for a hiker......this means that all the girls on the track are tramps!!!). There's a full time warden in hut we stayed in and unfortunately he was a bit of a psycho. We were exhausted by 7pm after a full day of tramping but he insisted on spending hours telling us all the different ways he likes to kill possums. To quote "You can smash their faces in, stamp on their faces real hard and shoot them in the head two or three times and they may still be alive....even with their brains hanging out and blood all over their fur". All of this by fire-light too....spooky! Needless to say we didn't sleep a wink that night for fear of the warden mistaking one of us for a possum!
