After a short drive down the motorway from Zagreb through increasingly dramatic mountains and some 3 mile long tunnels we arrived at the coast at last. We'd headed for the pretty town of Zadar on the north adriatic coast, but Zadar itself is so small and quaint it has nowhere to stay, so we found a campsite a mile or so away in Borik. Its a great place right by the sea, and after a brief struggle to erect the tent on extremely stony ground (during which Simon became so enraged he threw a tent peg clean through the side of the tent in frustration. Oops.), we went for a lovely swim in the clear waters of the Adriatic, a mere 10 metres from our tent. Fully refreshed, we ate tasty pizza and watched the sunset.

The next morning we needed to get our clothes clean so headed into town (after another brief incident where Simon managed to injure his foot walking across the first completely flat surface he'd encountered in some time). Zadar is a picturesque little town on a peninsular, very much in the Venetian style, and after dropping off our clothes with the local Dot Cotton we strolled its narrow street looking at churches, old roman ruins, enormous city walls and an amazing view of the islands lying just off-shore. We like it here, even though the Tess is poorly with a cold and Simon has gravely wounded his toe. We'll be hanging around for a few days, so more info and photos to follow - as we're currently typing this to kill time in the laundrette while Dot finishes with our pants.
