Went for our usual morning walk after a bit of a lie in due to the late finish on Sunday night. There were quite a few locusts on the dirt road where we walked and they were flying away as we approached them.
On the way back to the park we stopped off to check out the museums and the collection of old machinery that lines the road through town. There are some really interesting contraptions in the collection as well as the more recognisable items of equipment. The day was actually quite hot as the wind had dropped substantially.
There is an old house set back from the main road that houses a whacky collection of items such as bottles, buttons, scissors, chains, hand tools and heaps more
At one stage there were 8 caravans lined up in the main street. We spoke to a guy walking past while we had a coffee at the cafe and he informed us that they were a club from Griffith who were on a 4-5 week trip.
After lunch we headed back into Longreach to stock up again on supplies before heading further south.
At 5:30 we popped in to the meet and greet at the shed and arranged to meet up with the crew for a final dinner at the Wellshot Hotel.
It was funny watching Trish trying to get her $5 note to stick to the ceiling of the pub. It's stuck on with a thumb tack that's wound into the note with a coin to give it some purchase when it hits the roof. Obviously Trish wasn't holding her mouth in the correct position because Jan got it first go. I'm sure that feat will be relived when next we catch up. The money is donated to the RFDS once a month.
The pub's dog was amazing to watch - she was a border collie
After tea we met back at the shed for another singalong - Greg with the Guitar and Gavin with the harmonica (he was very good). Jesse (the park manager) contributed to the occasion with a few politically incorrect jokes that had everyone in tears again.
We have made some good friends whilst in Ilfracombe and already have some invites to catch up with several couples whilst in Adelaide. We are very pleased that we decided to stop 'for the night'.
