Toward the bottom of the Salton Sea, we stopped to check out Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge. It really sucked that the Visitor's Center closes on weekends, which you would think should open for tourists. We hiked on a short trail to Red Hill and got a closer look of the sea. Along the hike, there were a lot of little cottontail bunnies running around. I couldn't keep my eyes off them. I love bunnies, what can I say. Anyhow, the trail provided many interesting facts about the sea as well as the wildlife there. The refuge was established as a sanctuary and breeding ground for birds and wild animals in 1930. The place provided a nice scenery of the sea.
