Left Doha about 8:30 am (due 7:50 am) bound for Heathrow and cold and rain and green - I need a change from hot and dry and white.
Economy class on Qatar Airways is quite good. Wine/beer (red was a nice French one Chateau Amalric Cotes de Roussillon 2003 Wine )etc was included in the price and we got breakfast and also a small lunch just before arriving in London. In flight entertaiment includes choice of about 40 on-demand movies and heaps of on-demand CD's. I listened to the CD's although I did cackle out loud a few times watching Black Adder - the episode about the first dictionary ever written.
It is a five star airline in the air (pre-service is a joke - see below).
It is a good flight during the day as you fly over Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Turkey, then Eurpope.... A lot of desert in this part of the world.
Booking with Qatar Airways is not good - why am I not surprised?!
I booked the flights on the internet site and printed off the booking confirmation. I had to provide my credit card details. I thought I had finished.
Lucky I read through the fine print the next day. You have to purchase your tickets from the Doha Branch! I went to the Branch about 2:00 pm. Spoke to a frustrated Egyptian who had been there for about 90 minutes. I did a quick calculation and concluded I could go home and have something to eat and drink and then come back and I would still be waiting in the queue. It was Ramadan and I had not had anything to eat or drink since 7:15 am. (I follow it while I am at work.) It worked out well. When I got back I had to wait for 4 more people. Went to the woman at the counter, gave her my booking confirmation printout and gave her my credit card. She processed it pretty quickly and then told me to go to the cashier. I said "where?" "The cashier". You have to wait in another line so that he cashier then takes the paper given to you by the woman who is serving you and also your credit card. The other woman just sat and waited until I cam back from the cashier. NO WONDER IT TAKES SO LONG TO GET SERVED!!! I gave my credit card details - three times- why??? I am drafting a letter to the Qatar Airways CEO.
