All the guide books say "avoid the tight, narrow streets of Ronda town centre" - but as usual we took no notice! So there we were squeezing Daisy through the narrow streets trying to avoid the Christmas shoppers, signing along to the Christmas songs being piped onto the streets and ignoring the funny looks from the Spanish! However Ronda ended up being our favourite place in Spain up to now, it's a really scenic town split in half by a huge gorge connected by a massive old bridge. Houses and restaurants cling to the edge of the gorge and the whole place has a brilliant atmosphere and loads of character. Alfie loved it here too - he met his match in a 10 month old female boxer dog called Frankie, the two of them played for hours on the campsite. Again we met some great people and spent New Year's Eve going from campervan to campervan and sat up with Frankie's mum and dad until the early hours until some strange Spanish man ('death' as we called him) appeared out of shadows and told us we were being too noisy!

On New Year's Day we had our first real stress moment since leaving home. Sat on the loo at around midnight Rob shouts through the toilet door "Nic, why have you locked the van door?". I hadn't, but Alfie had - from the inside! He has a habit of jumping up to look through the side window when we leave him in the van and he must have caught the lock on the sliding door as he jumped back down again. We came very close to having to smash one of the windows, but thankfully with the help of Guy (Frankie's dad), some wire, a twig and a fly swatter we managed to lift the catch on the driver's side door as luckily the window was open a tiny bit!! This was mostly due to Rob's misspent youth and the fact he's from Hartlepool!!! We were just hoping that 'Death' wasn't watching from the shadows otherwise he would have thought we really were an odd bunch! Very stressful hour or so but we now have a spare key hidden strategically outside the van (any would be thieves - don't bother, you'll never find it!).

Watching you
Yes it's me, your mothers favourite brother.
Following your progress as always.

Two little niggles.

FIRST: You live in the Lake District, No scenery in Spain could get you excited,YOU LIVE IN THE LAKES; get in the cities,Madrid, Barcelona etc., see the architecture, the museums, in fact see it all.
Tell me what you feel when you see La Sagrada Familia, I think they call it Gaudi's Cathedral over there. Gaudi was an ardent catholic.
Rob, to put it into perspective, do you remember when we went to Durham Cathedral: Me,you,Richard, Gareth and Linda, how we were all blown away when we stepped inside............I don't know, it just takes your breath away.1000 years of history.
Don't settle just for the views see the sights !

So..head back up to France and skirt the Med to Italy.
Rome is the place to go in Italy, sights are stunning.
Sistine Chapel is to die for, unfortunately you could die while you and many hundreds of others are getting pushed through like cattle. St Peters square is
stunning, take binoculars unless you have Superman vision. Colosseum is awesome, Brits lived in mud huts when the Romans built it !
Then back up to France, hit Paris, the Louvre is justification alone, but there are many more besides.
After that Germany and Czechoslovakia, after that I don't know, know little about Eastern Europe small exception would be Latvia, based on the evidence of Riga
NEVER again, it conformed to what you I thought Eastern Europe would be like.
The bottom line is..............

Think about what I have said but go with your desires.

SECOND: SIGNING is how people communicate to deaf people, SINGING is what Sinatra,Elvis and many more do.

I know this might sound a trifle pedantic, but isn't really, the first time I read it in your post I thought you had entered a Deaf community.
Anyway you have had my input, take it or leave it, whatever you do, have fun, be careful.

All of our love goes with you take care, see you again, someday :)
