Where I stayed
Friday morning met us with torrential rain, rather than the beautiful sunrise over the lake that we had hoped for. After waiting a while, hoping it would slack off, we gave up and packed the tent wet, which again resulted in us madly dashing around, this time getting soaked instead of eaten alive. Our drive to the Mackinac Bridge included a stretch along both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, quite by accident, as we took our first wrong turn of many. The highlight of our morning was almost hitting two Sandhill cranes walking across the road, quite a change from the deer and antelope that had bounded across our path in Montana. The Mackinac Bridge was fantastic! Very beautiful, much like the Narrows, but longer and a much nicer shade of green. After driving down 75 for a while we proceeded to miss every turn to Terri's house. Terri Slominski is a long time family friend, who worked with our mother at the UW Hospital. What was left of the day was spent enjoying Terri's company, extreme hospitality, and the luxury of indoor plumbing!
