After going to bed at 9pm the night before Madeline got 9 hours of sleep and Sigrid got 11 hours of sleep which allowed us to be well rested and ready for another beautiful day in Glacier. Because the Going to the Sun road was only open for about 17 miles we had to exit the park through the west entrance and drive around the park on highway 2. Highway 2 was absolutely beautiful but after we got off highway 2 there were some scary roads (think narrow, gravel, drop-off) to get to the park entrance. On entering St. Mary in East Glacier, our first stop was Sun Point, which was a breathtaking view of St. Mary lake and the surrounding mountains. We then hiked to Baring Falls, kind of by accident, while trying to find the Sun Point Nature Trail, but they were quite beautiful and therefore weren't too frustrated with Glacier's poor signage. From there we drove as far as we could on the Going to the Sun road from this direction, which was about 13 miles; that left about 20 miles of the Going to the Sun highway that were still apparently unsafe or impassible. Again exiting the park and driving around on sketchy roads, this time inhabited by cows, we went to the Many Glacier entrance where we took a lovely hike around Swift Current Lake, despite the weather changing from sunny to cloudy to rainy and back to sunny again every five minutes or so. That ended our second day in Glacier and it was time to start our mad dash to Michigan. After stopping in Chester, Montana to make a quadruple batch of mac' 'n cheese, we managed to make it a bit more than half way across Montana on highway 2 before we deemed each other unfit to drive around midnight.
