Now I feel like I'm on holiday! The grueling dive schedule is behind me and I've been chilling in Kuta for the last couple of days. And what a day I have had today - my first surf lesson AND I got to release a baby turtle into the sea!!!!

So, I had my first surfing lesson today!!! Oh what fun! I mastered the lying down bit rather nicely and thought I'd be happy to carry on and just do that. But of course standing on your board is all part of it, so, petrified I prepared to take my next wave standing. Needless to say I completely deck it the first time, but to be honest it wasn't that long till I was standing all the way to the shore! I do think my dance and yoga skills came in very handy. I found I could stand, even change direction a bit and ride my wave with a delicate hop off the end landing on my feet. We then had a little welcome break as it is really tiring stuff, and typically I went back in and was rubbish. Nearly every time I was splat in the sea.... Then the instructor said it was our last go and I was determined to ride the wave as I had already that day to finish on a good one, and I did :o)

Then we had heard about the infamous Kuta Turtle man... (http://www.kutaseaturtle.com/p/mr-turtle.html)
So we took a flea bitten walk all along the beach to find him. There were two buckets of baby turtles all born yesterday waiting to be released this evening. Desperately not wanting to miss out we turned up an hour early to see if we could release a turtle. You simply pay a donation of your choice and get a token, then collect your turtle in a wee tupa-ware box when the time is right. I named mine Oscar.... There were about 50 of us in total and we all released them at the same time, it was like having a turtle race!! It's amazing watching them go, their instincts kicking in as they waddle straight to the sea. It was possible the most amazing thing I have ever done!!!!!!

My hotel in Kuta is budget but for 17 a night I shouldn't expect too much... Certainly not clean sheets and towels! I did decide that I have slept in worse and I do have my sheet sleeping bag so all is good.

Tomorrow I have a day to myself before I say goodbye to Claire and Ben.... Then I'm off to Gili T for 5 nights! Woo hoo!!!

Take care
Love to you all,

Oh dear, did you take your own towels? I don't remember. I'd love to see the little turtles all waddling their way to the ocean!
