The next stop on our temple-tastic tour down the Nile was the Bird Temple at Edfu - mostly all still standing, and with a roof, unlike most of the others we were to visit. We gathered in the courtyard to get some background info on the temple from Mack, the guide - none of which I can actually remember now, so of course it was a very fruitful 20 minutes I spent staring at the front wall of it and soaking up the sun...
On the plus side, the front of the temple is very impressive - tall and strong, and guarded by a very ominous looking bird, which was probably some sort of omnipotent god back in the day, and scared the living daylights out of the locals.

We had a couple of hours here, exploring and what not - there are plenty of impressive heiroglyphics and figures etched into the walls, all very well preserved.

After a time though, there really are only so many heiroglyphics you can stare at without knowing what they all mean, so it was back to the boat for some more sunshine and sun deck action - we spent the afternoon sailing to our next temple stop at Kom Ombo...
