A classic Waitakeres loop walk near Bethells Beach - out on the Goldie Bush trail, relatively flat and quiet through the bush, ending with a big set of steps down to the Mokoroa Stream. The Mokoroa trail took us alongside and many times through (I think there is 17 river crossings through out) the stream. although luckily for us the water level was pretty low. We did have to wade a couple of times though - much to the distaste of a few other groups of people we ran into on the walk.

The stream was fun - just a little bit hard to find the orange marking trails in places. If you're a bit apprehensive about getting wet (like we were at the start!), you can find yourself traversing dubious trails up the side of cliffs and then sliding inelegantly down them to try and re-find the right path. Oops!

The Morokoa Trail winds up at Morokoa Falls, another beautiful Waitekeres waterfall, and a great cheeky little picnic spot. There's a fair few steps on the way out, and a gentle climb back up to the car park. 2 hrs walk all together, although I'm sure it claims to be much longer on the DOC website... How can it take 3hrs to walk 2.5km when it's pretty much all flat? Maybe if you're hopping, DOC!
