Last night I attended the CS meet up where I had pre-planned to meet up with Daria Goulab. Daria arrived yesterday, a few weeks early for a school research project. With a few weeks to travel we decided to pair up and keep one another company. We started with a day trip to Suzhou today. Unaware that we could depart from the closer train station, we had a lengthy journey until we finally arrived at downtown Suzhou around 1:00PM. We visited the museum and the must see Garden of the Master of the Nets before walking along the canals past very cute cafes. Determined to travel by local bus we took an unplanned tour of the real city on our way to Tiger Hill. Not realizing that all of the attractions close by 5:30PM we didn't know what else to do with ourselves since our return ticket back to Shanghai wasn’t until 9:00PM.

I had high hopes of hitting the Shanghai nightlife as it was my last night, so we went early to the train station to see about catching an earlier train. Luckily we were able to get a 7:30PM which got us back by 8:00PM. I was home, showered and ready to meet a few CSers for salsa dancing at Tivoli around 10:30PM. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Shanghaiers dance.

Still energized at midnight I took myself to a lounge/dance club called The Apartment in the French Concession area. It was like entering any lounge in LA. Filled with Europeans and trendy Chinese, the music was great and I had fun dancing. Drinks were pricey and after a couple of whiskeys at Tivoli, I opted for expensive water.

The nice thing about this area is that there a few cool clubs next to one another, offering a little variety, including rooftop views and one in a cave. I met up with an Italian name Guido, need I say more.
