Nearly each destination seems to great me with a new sickness. Tonight I arrived in Istanbul with a 24-hour flu and a terrible stomach virus. Hamza, the CSer hosting me tonight in Istanbul met me at the ferry station in Kadikoy after I arrived via plane, metro and ferry. I felt terrible because I couldn't spend any time with him, it took all the energy I had to crawl into bed and spend the night sweating out the fever and running to the bathroom every 15 minutes.

I finally made it out the door to find a pharmacy around 2:00PM the next day and then headed to the European side to meet another CS, Ehran. Ehran and I grabbed some soup and local grub before he had to run back to work. So I didn’t see much that day by way of attractions but thanks for CS I covered lots of Istanbul. From Taksim, I caught the 110 bus to Kurucesme to meet Ozgur at Assk bar. Kurucesme is loaded with trendy bars that remind me of Sunset plaza but with a view of the Bosphorus. I sent a request to Oz in May based on his profile which emphasized his passion for cooking. However, he initially declined my request to stay because he was "on his bike in Europe." Of course I thought he meant bicycle but of course what he meant was his Harley. Oz is an anomaly for Turkish men. It turns out he is a former bodybuilder, a fund manager/broker who has lived in the states, spends half the year in Montreal, Canada and easy on the eyes I might add. After dinner we strolled along the Bosphorus passing the fancy fish restaurants and Bebek, one of the wealthier neighborhoods until we reached his home in the hills of Etiler. As it turned out Oz became my saving grace in Istanbul and I hope our paths cross again someday wherever it may be.
