The artistic programme of the sculptor de Freitas is dedicated to the exploration of form, material and space, their interdependencies and the perception by the audience. Her constant extension of modern form vocabulary concerning elements such as movement, subject and identity is closely linked to the performance experience of this trained dancer during the 1970s.
In Iole de Freitas' expansive installational work, no differentiation is made between inside and outside. On the level of the first upper floor, curved steel pipes penetrate the exterior wall and arch through the air. Particularly from the outside, the figure claims a certain autonomy with regard to the architecture, while on the inside it takes on a different quality: here the bands and bows form spatial situations which offer themselves to the visitors as spaces to pass through or in which to tarry for a while.
