Where I stayed
Ripley Court Hotel, Dublin

Flag of Ireland  , County Dublin,
Friday, July 11, 2008

"There once was a Hindu called Gandhi,
Went up to the bar for a shandy,
With his great loincloth,
He wiped up the froth,
And the barman said: "Blimey, that's handy!"

This limerick is from the great Spike Milligan, and is about the only one I know.

This morning we left Bantry on the bay and drove through the rugged Killarney National Park to Killarney, then to Limerick, namesake of that particular style of rhyme, en route to Dublin.

There were many spectacular views to be had along the way, and the city of Killarney promised much as a place to stay on some future occasion, with many accommodation options, and close proximity to natural wonders and lots of mountain sheep with colourful brands so their owners can be identified.
We tried unsuccessfully to contact friends of Emma in the area, aware that we had a timetable to keep, with Emma catching a bus for her "Sham-Rocking Tour of Ireland" next morning early in Dublin.

A stop in Adare along the way to Dublin broke up the trip, with a visit to the Adare Heritage Centre, and an impromptu performance there by a group of Swiss yodellers and singers that was clearly the highlight of the visit.

The trip to Dublin was uneventful, and our stay had been booked from a Tourist Information Centre before we arrived. Whilst not in the best end of town, the Ripley Court Hotel was well appointed, clean and affordable. The surrounding shops were notable for their grilles and roller doors, and our first impression of the place was not flash, with a security guard lolling out the front, and the underground car-park protected by a large padlocked gate, but inside all was in order.

Next day we would again say goodbye to our daughter, after just getting used to her company again
