Where I stayed
Hollywood Casino RV Park
Once we arrived at Long Beach, Mississippi (I just love typing Mississippi) we parked along the side of the highway in the first turnout we came to. The beach from the highway was pretty as a picture if you stayed on the highway. But, the houses along the highway and across the highway from the beach, look a lot different then when we were here before. If you've been here before, you'll remember those BIG white houses that lined the highway. Now there will be a house, two empty lots, another house or two, another empty lot or two, and repeated for miles. We went as far as Gulfport, Mississippi (hehehe -- I typed it again) and it was the same all the way
We walked down along the shoreline. Couldn't believe the number of dead jellyfish. The water was cool, but not cold, and very clear. But, as you can see in the pictures, There IS Still Oil Along the Beach. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves except for the workers picking up oil from the beach. Actually, I never saw one of them bend over to pick anything up. What's up with that???
We drove further until we saw a fishing pier that we could walk out on. It consisted of a walkway, followed by a bunch of benches (say that three times fast), followed by another walkway, and another bunch of benches. At the first benches, there were probably 10 older men in wheelchairs or with walkers and their nurses having a day out. They seemed to really enjoy it. We walked out to the second set of benches and watched a fisherman catch a couple mullets. Trying to make conversation (and since Janet had said that she could live here), I asked this old man doing the fishing "Does it freeze here very often?". His reply was "Yup, if it gets cold enough. Maybe 32 degrees it will freeze." I was dumbfounded. Couldn't think of a comeback
We stopped at two gyp joints because Janet loves to browse. Didn't buy a thing, just looked. Then we headed back to camp. We spent probably six hours and hardly any money. My kind of day.
Took our showers. Grilled steak and had salad with it with iced tea. Then it was off to the Hollywood Casino. We each had $40 we were willing to donate to the state of Mississippi. Janet lost hers pretty quickly while I was getting ahead. She borrowed some of my winnings, won enough to pay me back and continue to play the slots. Then she lost it all again and borrowed it back. This went on for a few hours. At the end of the night, Janet had lost all her $40 and I was $41.75 ahead.
We really had a great day. To bed about 11:30.
