We only had one full day in Seattle so we had a very busy time. We arrived on a flight from Minneapolis and the hostel was in the centre of town for once so we really had no problems getting to everywhere. We caught a bus from the airport into the city centre and they have part of the bus stops set up underground, very similar to subways/metro stations, apart from it's buses that you catch! Arrived at the Green Tortoise hostel late afternoon and rushed back out again to see a baseball game. We watched Seattle Mariners play Cleveland Indians. Cleveland Indians are the team that we watched a couple of times when we worked at Cedar Point so we have a soft spot for them. Luckily for us they beat Seattle, and the tickets were only $13 each. We could also move about anywhere in the ground so changed our seats regularly throughout the game. A very good night!

Next day we actually got up early and made it to the free breakfast. After some toast and fruit we went out to do some sightseeing. We walked to the Seattle Centre and had a look at the Space Needle. We didn't go up the tower as it seems that every city has a tower to climb and none of them are free. There are lots of things to see and do at the Seattle Centre, such as the Children's Museum, Science Museum and Science Fiction Museum. We were going to go to the Sci Fi Museum but you aren't allowed to take photos so we decided against it.

After a walk round the Seattle Centre we walked down 5th Ave to the city centre again and had some lunch. In the afternoon we walked to Pioneer Square. They raised the street level of the area after a fire in 1889, and there is an Underground Tour that shows some of the shops/streets but you can see a couple of shops with their original entrances without going on the tour.

We then walked down to the waterfront and along it to Pike Place Market. They have some really interesting stores there and it is definitely worth looking at.

In the evening we watched the Southwest Airlines Torchlight Parade. They have this parade every year apparently and the theme this year was Hooray for Hollywood. It was really busy but free to watch. Some people had reserved spaces on the pavement since early in the morning but we stood behind them and watched the floats and performers roll by. It was very entertaining, especially the pirates that kept on firing their cannons when we were least expecting it and making the whole crowd jump!
