Where I stayed
After a long journey on Wednesday, spent on the bus we arrived at the Prescott Hotel in Boston late evening. The hostel was really nice but a bit out of the way. It's also quite expensive but this is the general case in Boston. We stayed in Room 21 which is where John Lennon stayed!
On Thursday we went into the city for a look around. We walked around Faneuil Hall and the marketplace where they have lots of little stalls selling souvenirs as well as the normal high street shops. we walked through Boston Common and to the Bull and Finch pub. This is the pub they used in the series Cheers.
We then wandered over to Fenway Park to have a look at the baseball stadium, home of the Boston Red Sox. On the way there we had a look round the Prudential Shopping Centre. Boston is where the famous Tea Party was, and they have a museum dedicated to it. Unfortunately, it is under renovation and won't be open again until 2006.
On Friday, we caught the train to Salem, to see the place of the Salem Witch Trials. In 1692, 19 people were accused of being witches and hanged. Another one, Giles Corey was crushed to death. We went to the Salem Witch Museum which gave a good account of why the Witch Trials happened and what started the mass hysteria. It also gave a history of witches and Paganism as a religion, before the Church came along and denounced it as a devil worshipping cult.
Salem has lots of things to do with witches but we were advised that the Witch Museum is the least tacky of them all. It also has several shops selling witchcraft souvenirs and gifts.
Once we got back to Boston we ate at a really nice Chinese Restaurant called Tasty Garden, just around the corner from Prescott Hotel.
