Where I stayed

Well it's very hard to top a week of luxury and indulgence with a group of great friends....

I have to admit after going to Bali in 2000 and experiencing the Bintang singlet wearing Aussies and the excessive bartering Bali had not really been on the top of my list of  'places to go'. However with a private beachfront villa, daily yoga and massages and staff waiting on me hand an foot my opinions have drastically changed.

Days usually involved early mornings with either a run or yoga. I'm really enjoying my early morning runs, its a lovely way to see the sunrise and watch locals start their day. I have to admit I do run to my i-pod, so with dance music blarring in my ears I politely smile at locals. Also a good strategy not to have to start any bagaining.... "I CANT HEAR YOU!!"

Went on a beautiful bike ride starting up in the mountains and ending in Ubud. Was fairly hairy in parts as it was pouring with rain and very muddy, but finished wet and covered in mud and very happy. The best $30 I spent! I think I have made the guiness book of records by being the first aussir NOT to purchase anything (that I can keep) in Bali. Massages, cocktails, food, bike ride and 4 postcards and stamps (which were sent off) was all that my hard earnt dollars bought.

We ate at some beautiful restaurants which shows the newer upmarket trendy bali. But it was still hard to top the amazing food and service at the villa. There were 7 of us guests, with 9 staff. This included 3 gorgeous girls who were always making sure we had a drink in hand. 3 guys who were the maintenance and room service guys. Plus they did our daily laudering, I saw one of them ironing my bonds undies! A chef, a secuirty gaurd and our driver! Slightly excessive one might think.... but it was amazing! I'd even go as far to say it may be the most amazing place I stay in my life!

Now in Bangkok... had a nice day wandering around seeing the Grand temple and this huge gold lying down buddha. Pretty busy though with hundreds of tours going on around me. An unnerving number of old european men with young thai girls.... who knows maybe they are madly in love, and I'm the one jumping to conclusions!

No hugely funny shona disaster stories as yet... will keep you all posted!

Hope everyone is well, very sad to hear about the bushfire tragedy...

would love to hear from you all
