Where I stayed
Speke's Bay Lodge
Our time at Lake Victoria was nice and restful and was a good break after some pretty full-on travel and activities. It was so peaceful being right on the water's edge (15 metres away), and sitting under the big trees at the lodge having a nice cold drink, listening to the birds and enjoying the surroundings and watching the sunset. The next day Reg visited the local fishing village on the canoe trip (while I recuperated from a bad headache and enjoyed a walk along the beach). I went for another walk on the beach in the afternoon and discovered some very large footprints between our rondavel and the beach leading from the water to the grassy area near our rondavel. Knowing there were no wild animals around here except hippos, I took a quick photo to ask the waiters that night what the footprints were and hurried back to our rondavel before the owner of the footprints came back! That night the waiter confirmed that yes, they were definitely hippo footprints.
