The guys woke up in Guntersville Marina this morning and headed off toward Scottsboro, AL at 7:00am.  Scottsboro is about 30 miles past Guntersville and about 45 miles from Nickajack Lake.  Although it started off cold this morning, the sun finally came out and the waters were much calmer and while there was no wind to sail at least the engine performed well in the smooth Gunersville Lake.

Jessica went online and found out there is what looks like a great marina in Scottsboro called Goosepond Marina.  It offers amenities, gas without ethanol, and a boat lift.  She came up with a plan for them to get to Goosepond for much needed R&R and good night's rest.  Then she will drive Joey down from Monteagle early Wednesday morning so he can make the last leg of the journey (and the last lock) to Nickajack Lake.  Joe wants him to see the lock process for himself and they will be able to go over some of the quirks and such that they've encountered that he might need to know, too.

The guys made good time and arrived at Goosepond Colony Marina around noon.

They were able to make contact with someone at the marina about using their fork lift or strap lift to change out that pesky intake water valve.  However, the guy convinced Joe that if he removed the valve and started having trouble with water coming in the boat, he could quickly come lift Perla with the fork lift if needed.  So Joe went to the marina store onsite and bought a new ball valve to replace the valve that was there.  Two turns of the wrench and out she came!  This valve was a ticking time bomb and they are lucky it didn't come out when they were motoring in the strong currents unable to get to shore or dock!  Joe and Ed quickly put the new valve in and then took a good look at the old gate valve that has plagued the Perla's cooling system for lo these many days.

Problem solved.  Weather is nice.  Life is good!  Ed and Randall spruced up Perla for her last day tomorrow headed to her new home in Tennessee.

The guys took advantage of the restaurant there and had a good meal and enjoyed another beautiful sunset.  Jessica will drive Joey down early to be there around 5:30am.  This means that they'll leave Monteagle around 4:00am.  Joey might as well not bother going to bed tonight. :)
