Where I stayed
Hotel Pastoral, Nice
The bus ride over was very pleasant, taking in some winding roads that bordered both mountain and sea. Slightly more appealing than the A55, though...
Monaco itself was very odd. There was a Blackpool-esque funfair lining the harbour and it was VERY tourism oriented, and in places a bit tacky, but there were other bits that were simply stunning, as the pictures will attest to. The F1 track was pretty easy to follow, but I only saw some - I had other things to do.
A whole group of us went over, and after we split off when in Monaco our mini group went to watch the changing of the guards at the Palace, which was very interesting, and much more extravagant than at Buck House
The afternoon brought a trip to the Casino, and a bit of a loss, but it was worth it to say I had gambled in Monte-Carlo.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day. Monaco (and Nice as well, actually) are places that I would describe as fun to exist in - even if you don't DO anything per se, they are just pleasant places to be, and have a great atmosphere.
Nice itself was very nice, although I didn't actually go to any of its attractions besides the beach. I spent a lovely evening sat on the enclosed terrace in the hostel with John, whom I mentioned in the previous post, 4 Kiwis, a Korean girl, a Californian named Janak and a German named Marcel. We drank the night away and it was great to spend an evening with such lovely company.
After everyone had said their goodbyes today and I took one last look at the beach, and the beautiful azure sea, I hopped on a train to Turin!
