After getting the train down from Dijon (a looong train, made all the more infuriating by lying SNCF websites) I arrived in to Marseille two hours earlier than expected and found my way to the hostel. After a long walk I mostly wanted to go to bed, but I had a few things to do so I stayed about in the common room for a bit and met some of my roommates, a Mancunian called John and an Aussie called Nick.

The next morning I got up reasonably early and Nick and I went for a walk around town, visiting an Egyptian archeological museum with mummified people and animals, which was pretty cool in a "eugh" sort of way. After that I had a fairly leisurely afternoon and hung around the hostel.

The thing I was most surprised about in Marseille was the temperature. It was 20 degrees during the day...and we're in November

. It was glorious, and it made wandering around the city that bit more pleasant (after I had put my leather jacket back at the hostel.)

Got a few bottles of the old vino in in the evening, as you can get a decent bottle here for less than 3 euros - no Lambrini for us - and sat drinking with a few of the other guests.

The next day, John and I were both going to Nice, so we (just!) caught the train over together and went up to the same hostel.
