After getting the train down from Dijon (a looong train, made all the more infuriating by lying SNCF websites) I arrived in to Marseille two hours earlier than expected and found my way to the hostel.  After a long walk I mostly wanted to go to bed, but I had a few things to do so I stayed about in the common room for a bit and met some of my roommates, a Mancunian called John and an Aussie called Nick.

The next morning I got up reasonably early and Nick and I went for a walk around town, visiting an Egyptian archeological museum with mummified people and animals, which was pretty cool in a "eugh" sort of way.  After that I had a fairly leisurely afternoon and hung around the hostel.

The thing I was most surprised about in Marseille was the temperature.  It was 20 degrees during the day...and we're in November.  It was glorious, and it made wandering around the city that bit more pleasant (after I had put my leather jacket back at the hostel.)

Got a few bottles of the old vino in in the evening, as you can get a decent bottle here for less than 3 euros - no Lambrini for us - and sat drinking with a few of the other guests.

The next day, John and I were both going to Nice, so we (just!) caught the train over together and went up to the same hostel.

Nice/Monaco updates to come!
