Music of Italy- Spring 2006 (with videos)

As we traveled around Italy we tried to listen to the music. Not just the never ending rounds of "Ciao Venezia" out our window in Venice. We listened to oldies stations and contemporary music. We listened on a small radio that I picked up a garage sale for a quarter (it plays forever on one AA). The music became part of our experience and intertwined with different locals and moments both good and bad. It was what we hummed as we walked across Etna and what we sang to each other walking in the Parco Nazionale D'Abruzzo (this was later in the trip and we figured out some words...but didn't necessarily know what we were singing about). When we did have a room with a TV, more often then not, we tuned in to MTV Italia or some other music station (in Genova there was a station that played folk music videos). The videos and music gave us a story to go with the song. In the end deciding not to bring an mp3 player on the trip was really the best thing we could have done. We listened to music that Italians were listening to and we listened to it together. On the last day of our trip we bought singles of music we discovered on our trip. Cost aside, our trip music takes us right back to those moments in Italy which seem so close but so far away. Some poking around on the internet led me to find a great source for Italian TV and some of the contemporary music videos...if you guessed YouTube you are correct. If you didn't hear these songs on the radio or TV you may have heard them when someone's cell phone rang and they chose to sing along rather then answer it. With out further ado, I present to you the Italian language music of Italy (spring 2006)-

(Note-some songs are louder then others, so adjust the volume as needed.)

Sei Nell'anima by Gianna Nannini- If you were in Italy this spring you heard this more then a few times. We love the video for its cheese factor.

Nuvole e lenzuola by Negroamaro- Popular with the kids. We love to sing to the "Tutto" part. Run man, run!

Sevgliarsi la mattina by Zero Assoluto- Fun pop ditty with a sleepy video.

Le donne lo sanno by Ligabue- Italian version of those Aerosmith videos with Alicia Silverstone.

Babbino Nel Tempo by Eros Ramazzotti- Every time we watched this video we kept saying "we get it, the kid is him when he was younger" we are easily entertained.

Stop! Dimentica by Tiziano Ferro- Great moody song! Very serious video.

Applausi Per Fibra by Fabry Fibra- A big hit in Napoli and played all most as much as Sei Nell'anima. The video is very mockable, so put some tape on your mouth and do the robot.

La Mia Parte Intollerante by CappaRezza- Italy's premier rapper. The video is very entertaining and he rhymes something with mononucleosis. What more could you ask for?

Ciao Venezia by guy singing in Gondola- Ah... Venice. I put this on to show that even if you didn't have a video camera on your trip you can check out other's home videos on YouTube to help you remember.

Hope you enjoyed our countdown.
