Well, if Cuenca is the colonial jewel of Ecuador, then that honour for Peru must fall to Trujillo. This city, 3 hours further south by bus from Chiclayo, has retained a lot of itīs colonial architecture and is really beautiful. Especially the Plaza de Armas, which is surrounded by grand colonial buildings and churches, painted in gorgeous colours, with wrought iron trimmings. Itīs still noisy and crowded, and the drivers here are just as crazy as those in Chiclayo, but the attractiveness of the surroundings helps to make up for that.
