We knew it was supposed to rain in the hills today (and maybe all over the Carolinas), so I convinced Pete that I didn't want to hang around in the rain. Pete was not convinced but agreed to go along for a while. We started heading south and had lunch in Morganton.
Like so many small southern towns we saw, Morganton had a central square with a municipal building in the center. We circled the center of town and stopped at a local sandwich shop for a bite. After lunch, we were stuck in farm traffic hell. By the time we got to Shelby I was starting to see Pete's point about how hot the lowlands were. We changed plans (again) and headed for the hills.
NC126 from Nebo to Morganton was an amazing revlatation of twists and vistas.
