Woke to chirping birdies and woodland smells. We broke camp and headed straight to the visitor's center for an 8:30AM tour into Mammoth Cave.

After an amazing tour, we rode a circuit through the park that included two ferry rides and a short gravel road.

A long ride East led to the Kentucky flanks of the Appalachins. We arrive late in the day and, in retrospect, should have stopped in London KY. An 8PM stop at Middlesboro KY revealed that all hotel rooms were full - no room at the (Holiday) inn. So, despite being tired we push on through rain. We've been assured that the 4 lane road through Cumberland Gap is an easy 45 minute ride to Morristown TN. Heavy rain slowed us down, as did the construction and slow traffic on the TWO lanes heading into the gap. But that was nothing compared to when we finially mounted the top of the ridge and found ourselves in a cloud. Sheer momentum kept us going (very slowly) through about 400 yards of wet white soup before we emerged into clear air. Pete had the eagle eyes as we found the hotel, thus allowing us to leave a trail of soggy foot prints across the lobby heading to our room.

I slept well that night.
