Well our stay at the Mount is half over, 6 weeks done 6 weeks to go before we head for Melbourne, Australia. We are going to spend 2 weeks there before we sail over to Tasmania for 6 days and then back to Melbourne to catch our flight to Los Angeles. We had a great week of weather until Sunday. We certainly have been lucky with the weather so far, hopefully it continues on.

During the week Cathy got her pilates/reformer workouts in. I got my regular rounds of golf in and we spent some afternoons at the beach. Thursday evening we headed to Amphora, one of the local restaurants, to celebrate Cathy’s birthday. We had an excellent meal. Sorry foodies, no pics the camera girl forgot to snap them.

The NZ Open Professional Beach Volleyball Championship took place this weekend at the Mount main beach. Teams from Germany and France have travelled here to play. The 2010 men’s world championship team from Germany were one of the big draws. Lots of people have made their way to the beach to take in the action Saturday. Bad weather arrived Sunday and the rest of the tournament was cancelled.

Sunday we got pounded with a huge rain and wind storm! Close to 200mm of rain fell in a 36 hour period, high winds and high tides have created problems throughout the North Island. It was good day to relax in our apartment. Sunday was the first day since we left home that weather cancelled a round of golf for us. After the storm we ventured out to the beach on Monday morning. There was a huge surf and the highest tides we have ever seen here. We ventured out on one of the peninsulas to wave watch and we came across to penguins. One looked like the storm had wore him out the other one hoped around the rocks and then headed back into the ocean. We were able to get within a few feet of the penguins they were pretty neat! The surfers enjoyed the day as 8 - 10 waves rolled in all afternoon.

The upcoming week looks to be much the same. A little golf, a little beach and a little wine. We hope everybody at home is doing well and staying warm as we hear it has been quite cold.

Cheers
Cathy and Dave
