Well today didn’t feel too rough thankfully.. (probably due to all the sleep we had the night before.!) Our remainder of days on Gili Trawangan (Gili T) was spent chilling out on the beach area, particularly at a place called Horizontal. Located on the beach halfway down the island, horizontal is a cool place to hang out and drink smoothies. They lay out sofa bed type futons on the beach that are quality for kicking back and relaxing in. Another fancy area we frequented was Scallywags restaurant down the southern end of the beach.
Often we would just stroll along the beaches and around the island. One of the best areas we found was at the Southern end of the island. About 15mins walk south of Scallywags we stumbled across a beautiful unspoilt and undeveloped area of the islands beaches. Seriously you must visit this area just to chill out and relax away from everyone else. The sea here is picture postcard perfect and the views are spectacular looking back towards Lombok island.
Evenings where spent basically drinking beer and partying in either Ruddys bar and clubbing with the locals at Blue Marlin on one of the Party nights on the island. There are 3 party nights a week on the island - Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A different bar/club host the party on different nights. On the island there is plenty of opportunity to get drunk and often there is opportunities to indulge in some remedial herbal activities of the mushroom variety….. I will not disclose in this forum whether we did or not ….. However the pictures may give away the results..!!!
The Gili Islands, especially Gili ‘T’ is Paradise! If you get the chance to go then get your arse over there before the island is consumed by developers and the face of the island changed forever. There are signs that this process is well under way. Up until now the architecture and design of the island has complemented the way of life on the island. I can only hope that this continues. Once again visit the Gili’s before its too late!!
