Welcome to a different kind of paradise.

We rose bright and early from our motel room in Los Mochis and hit the toll highway once again with the ocean villa of San Carlos in our sights. I made everyone a thrilling p.b. and j. sandwich for breakfast(....and then also for lunch) and we watched the plump corn and flower fields turn again into rolling desert full of Organ Pipe Cactus and eventually the mighty Saguaro Cactus emerged. This is certainly my favorite plant! It's just simply a marvel to view and to respect.

We arrived in San Carlos in the early afternoon and were quite excited to be at this desert oasis on the Sea of Cortez. This is a really neat town that is increasingly becoming quite popular with Americans and Canadians during the winter. It is situated in a quaint bay that is renowned for its fishing, golfing and white sand beaches. There are supposedly over 650 varieties of fish in this bay.

A neighbor we had met in Puerto Vallarta had recommended this town for us to stop at as well as a hotel, that used to be a Club Med, to stay at. We drove a short distance to this Ex Club Med only to find out that the rooms were extremely expensive. They did however offer us a basic room for $50 a night if we did there 3 hour time share tour. Rob, Zane and I took a look at this $50 room and had a pretty good look at the hotel and decided that it was probably an awesome place in the 60's or 70's but was not worth our time or money. It was in baaaaaaaaad need of a total renovation!

We drove back to town and quickly booked ourselves into the Fiesta del Sol right on the sea. It happened also to be the only place in town with a restaurant right on the beach. We were all quite hungry and without delay made our way to this restaurant. The kids collected pocket fulls of shells while Rob and I savored our cervesas and visited with a nice retired couple, from Seattle, living part time in San Carlos.

Rob and I decided this will be a place for us to return to someday to explore further!
