Where I stayed
Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort
After yesterday's ordeal, we decided maybe planning loosely was the way to go and definitely back inland where it was cooler and the accommodations were nicer. We grabbed a fancy brunch at La Mickey D’s and headed back towards La Fortuna/Arenal again. There was a cave tour there that we didn’t get the chance to take last time, but really I just wanted to go back to the lovely hot springsJ
We decided to spend a little more dough at stay at the fancy Tabacon Hotel with its famous hot springs. I figure any hotel with the word bacon in it has gotta be good. If I was giggling last time at the Hilton, I was laughing it up when we got in our room. It was kinda of like the room we had the night before, but 3 times better. There was a fancy fan that could spin in reverse, slippers and robes, jetted bathtub (yes, the first bathtub I’ve seen in this trip), giant flat screen, a fancy tea selection and coffee, a toaster?, and an upgrade to Aveda bath products! Hee hee… dude, I’m a girl, it’s a treat to have fancy bath thingys!
We got into our bathing suits and find out that the thermal hot springs are at the other side of the road ½ a block down and that they can shuttle us there. Really…..a ride for half a block…well okay.
We got there and realized as nice as our last hot spring in this town was, it was a baby compared to this. This was real volcanic rock based with flowing hot thermal water! It was more like a hot springs park with several areas off pooled thermal water running through. The best were the ones with the waterfalls. It kinda feels like a heavy-handed Swedish woman is pounding at your back when you stand under them. Andy kept getting over heated while I was happy as monkey in a banana tree sitting in the hot steaming water. He kept sticking his head behind the waterfalls and baking in there.
We ended up grubbing at the buffet restaurant upstairs. He ordered the Spanish meal while I got Tandoori chicken off the menu. Andy managed to spot the chef cooking my meal and told me to get over there to check out the spice display. There were well over 15 different spices that were on display to show what is used in preparing the meal. The chef even let me go behind the glass and stand next to him while he tandoored my chicken…let’s just say that that particular meal only saw the light of day for 10 minutes before being shoveled down my throat. Hot spring-ing is hard work and works up an appetite!
We later found ourselves tuck snuggly in bed anticipating Conan’s second to last show on air only to find out that with 50 channels or so, they didn’t offer NBC! Waaah…oh the injustice in this world. Yes, I’m kidding, I ended back on CNN watching the news of Haiti.
I felt very spoiled in my fancy pink robe in the fluffy bed. I feel fortunate and grateful for all that I have. And when I look over to my left, I am most thankful for my very healthy and happy husband alive next to me. It is just terrible what happened over there.
