I am finally at a hotel with a wired internet connection. I spent about 3 hours in Jasper one evening trying to do a blog and download pictures only to have the wireless cut off so I lost everything.

Left Jasper at about 3 pm yesterday for Vancouver. I will try to download pictures of the train and scenery. Overnight on the train and then arrived in V (Vancouver) about 10 am. Took a taxi to my hotel and left within 15 minutes for a 6 hour city tour. It was raining in Jasper when we left but Vancouver is sunny and hot (about 85).

Vancouver is a city of 3 million and surrounded by water. It is in the province of British Columbia or BC. Real estate here is absurdly expensive - a condo fronting the water goes for about 5 million.

It is a popular cruise ship port and has a famous cruise ship terminal with huge white sail like wings protruding. Bob, I think we left from here for Alaska.

My favorite stop was at the Capilano suspension bridge which is actually on the island of West Vancouver. It was a privately owned hunting estate in the early days and the owners originally built a rope suspension bridge over a very deep chasm (250 feet deep) to get to the other side. Later on, it was redone as a metal suspension walking wire  bridge which is 450 feet long, 250 feet high over the river underneath. You have to take about 10 stairs down to get to the bridge and then it dips down to a deep U in the middle. It is only about 3 feet wide. It is quite a ride walking across - swaying back and forth and up and down. You can see right down between your feet and have to hold onto a wire cable on each side to keep your balance. It is sort of like the hanging bridges in Costa Rica, Bob, although much much longer.

We toured around other city sites, China town (second largest to San Francisco) and made a stop at Granville Island which is actually an island within an island - lots of bays and channels here. It is a wonderful place full of fresh food markets, restaurants, art galleries, etc. I bought a delicioius salmon pie which had a delicious crust and lots of salmon, cheese and mushrooms. I was going to save it for dinner but could not wait.  I also bought a feast to have tonight and tomorrow night and for breakfast the next 2 mornings

How does this sound - green and black olive tampanade with feta, sundried tomato pesto spread, parma proscuitto, cheese, greek salad, crackers, and a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, onion and capers for breakfast with some fresh picked local blueberries, raspberries and cherries.

My hotel has a beautiful view of the city and a balcony. Tomorrow, I am taking a long day trip to Victoriia via bus, ferry, and small boat.   More tomorrow.

Love the pictures of the bridge. The times I have been in Vancouver (only twice) I never got to the bridge - but it looks absolutely wonderful and terrifying at the same time). Keep the photos coming and enjoy the rest of your trip.
