Bob and I took a local bus to the downtown from the airport (40 km away! - about 40 minutes). All of the Canadians we have met so far have been so very, VERY friendly. When we were waiting out by the bus stop which is in the middle of nowhere, a car with two men stopped and asked if we wanted a ride into town. We declined but can you imagine that happening in Calif. People have stopped us and asked if we needed directions or any help, very friendly.

There is about a 10 block boardwalk in downtown Halifax right on the bay. It was a gorgeous day, sunny and about 78 degrees. First we took a tour of a local brewery, the first in NS, founded in 1820 called Anderson Keith's. The guides were all dressed in costumes of the 1800s and the tour ended in the basement pub where we could drink almost all the beer we wanted and they put on a great show of singing, dancing and story telling.

We had a great lunch next door at a local pub of the most delicious lobster stew we had every had. Seafood is the speciality here in the Maritimes, especially lobster, so we are looking forward to having more later on out of the big city.

We walked through the Maritime Museum here which is a history of the sailing and shipping industry in NS. Also, they had a whole floor of Titanic memorabilia because Halifax is where the rescue ships that picked up survivors and bodies returned to and most of the dead are buried in a local cemetery.

Met the group tonight - about 42 of us, most from the States, but also a few Canadians and one couple from Trinidad.

More tomorrow. Bags out at 7 am and on the road by 8:30.  - Sorry, Chris and Andrea, this is not your kind of time table. Italy will be different.

Hi Shirley, Damon and I were in Halifax in 2004 and toured the Anderson Keith brewery, too! Damon doesn't miss a brewery tour if he can help it, ha ha! We also had lunch there. We toured the Maritime Museum and saw the Titantic exhibit as well. You've brought back some great memories!
