Where I stayed

My friend Elaine is an extreme workaholic.  She works 7 days a week and a minimum of 70 hours a week, often more.  In the 6 years that I have known her she has never had a holiday.

I decided that she needed a reward and a break and we arranged for her to have a weekend away from work.  Although she tried to get it out of me, I would not tell her where we were going or what we were doing.  She had no idea what to pack.  She was so worried that I was going to have her Bungy jumping or sky diving or something else extreme!  But no, I had arranged a weekend of things that I thought she would like to do.

I told her to be at my home at 8.30am.  I'd accidently let it slip during the week that we were flying (a first for Elaine) so she was already quite nervous as we drove away from my house.  I intentionally went the opposite direction to put her off but soon went round the block to headed towards Melbourne.

Elaine was quite excited all the way to Melbourne and was still trying to get me to tell her where we were going.  It was only when we got to the airport to check in that she knew we were going to Adelaide.  As we waited to board, she was getting very nervous, having never flown before.  I think it was a mixture of nerves and excitement as we boarded the plane.

The flight went well but it was a slightly turbulent landing.  A frequent flyer would not be concerned, however you have to remember that Elaine has never flown before.  Every time that there was a slight jolt, Elaine would make it known that she was not happy with a groan, squeal, grimace and the tightening of her death grip on the arm rests.  Just as we are nearing the ground, when everyone goes quite in anticipation, she stated very loudly and clearly "I don't know why anyone would want to join the mile high club".  The whole plane just cracked up laughing.  You had to be there!  It certainly relieved the tension of the landing.
